You want to know where everyone is??? We’ve gone fishin’. And now we are going to have a culturally-challenged conversation over a nice casserole, made with non other than Iowa corn, the loudest growing corn you’ve ever heard west of the Mississippi.
Wedding reception in one of those “scuzzy” river towns, Dubuque. Despite the fact that the bride’s family have owned a dairy farm in north Iowa for over 100 years, guests restrained themselves from bringing Jell-O molds. Shockingly, not all pictured appear to be white.

“To me, it summed up Iowa. You’d never get a dog because you might just want to walk with the dog or to throw a ball for her to fetch. No, that’s not a reason to own a dog in Iowa. You get a dog to track and bag animals that you want to stuff, mount, or eat.” - Stephen Bloom in The Atlantic
This blog has gotten a lot of submissions in the last few days. Across Iowa, residents have made the long and cold trips to Minneapolis, Chicago and Des Moines to use the internet and submit great posts. I’ve gone through the posts and counted up how many times each submission is liked, reblogged, or receives positive comments to put together a top 12 list (why 12? so you can make a calendar if you want). Here they are, in the order of least “votes” to most!
As moderator, I have used my discretion to select an additional 7 submissions that didn’t make the top 12 but for whatever reason I thought merited special attention. Here they are:
The site will continue to review new submissions, but as it it the holiday season, I can’t guarantee I will be checking the site quite so often (though still at least once a day). It’s a long drive to Chicago, after all.
